Oh wait. The Brazilians did it for them. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . A few guys welding two 1500 flat-4 cases together making a 3 liter flat-8. Lovingly put through booming megaphone exhaust. Enjoy their craftsmanship. There's another guy, engine has LIND on it, splicing together two type-4 914 engines for a flat 8 of nearly 5 liters. trying to dig more on that one...Could someone translate the end of the second film? Might be some good info there.

I believe Porsche made both flat 8s and boxer 8 engines.. They made so few that it's hard to get any decent information about timing and layout since "flat" can describe both boxers and horizontally opposed engines in what you find.

It was a full on boxer. 1 crankpin per cylinder! It is very hard to find info on them. They were thinking about making a boxer 12 as well but they decided not to after the deemed it to complicated. Here is a picture of the crank!

That's basically a Porsche 908 engine.
Kind of.

yeah. without a magneesium case and built on a garage floor with free spare parts. I do want to know how they did the crankshaft.

Right, right.. I know that the engine in the video was a boxer, but I think Porsche also made a flat 8.

Whoops, my bad. I thought you were asking if it was a boxer or a flat engine, maybe I should read more.
I have never heard of a flat 8 by Porsche. I originally thought that the 908 had a flat engine, it wasn't until last year sometime, that I learned that it was a boxer, and even sooner that I actually saw a picture of its crankshaft. So basically. I don't know.

I started reading this a few minutes ago, but I got a headache before I was able to finish it.
